Hillsdale General Store & HGS Home Chef Hillsdale General Store is an old time store filled with unique finds. HGS Home Chef - our new Kitchen Store and Cooking School is right across the street!

Back in the day, every town in America had a General Store. It was a gathering place where noses were pressed up against the candy counter and local news was shared around a potbelly stove. The Hillsdale General Store is a twenty-first century version of that idea, filled with useful and beautiful things for country life on two full floors. Right across the street is HGS Home Chef, our new kitchen

store and cooking school. In our two gorgeous teaching kitchens we present the best and brightest in the food world. From hit cookbook authors to amazing chefs, our line up of teachers are world class but completely approachable. Both our stores are beautiful and filled with things you can't live without. We welcome all within our doors and hope to see you soon!

It was a busy weekend at the store with both new friends and old. Greeting all was our trusty Model-A Ford, Old Henry. He’ll be resting until this coming weekend when he hopes you’ll come by and say hello. 🛻

There’s something wonderful about old needlepoint. Here we have a gothic-revival chair (one of a pair) and I tiny footstool needlepointed with beads interspersed into the design. Both lovely covers for these pieces. 🪡

A truly beautiful pair of antique oils, likely commissioned for a dining room in a gilded age villa on the Mediterranean. Very handsome, fine quality. Artist unknown. Original frames. French. Could have been part of a larger collection of epicurean still life pictures. I love everything about these. MW

Hillsdale NY sits where the Hudson valley kisses the Berkshires, and our historic General Store is nestled in the sweet spot on the hamlet green. This shows a slice of summer life here… our 1929 Model-A Ford making its way to the shop, wildlife on those country lanes, vintage treasures and useful housewares within, two Hillsdale hounds, and a well-made cocktail at the end of the day, in a beautiful vintage glass from the shop (of course). It’s full-on summer in Hillsdale NY, where the Hudson Valley kisses The Berkshires, so I thought we’d make the perfect warm weather cocktail -the Pimm’s Cup, a classic British cocktail that got its start in the 1840s. It began as a digestive created by James Pimm, a London bar owner, but soon spread as a refreshing drink, especially popular at Wimbledon. Cucumber makes a particularly summery garnish that sets this cocktail apart. Built in a glass, normally a highball (tho a hefty goblet works nicely), you start by filling the glass with ice, then put in your garnishes of thinly sliced cucumber and orange so they are visible from the outside. Pour in two oz of Pimm’s No. 1, a generous squeeze of lemon, and top with ginger ale. Give it a stir, then complete the garnish with more orange slices, strawberries, whole or halved, and a sprig of mint. Very easy, and oh-so refreshing. Sip, don’t gulp! If you have a crowd make a pitcher. And enjoy on these peak summer days at a picnic, garden party or pool.
