We first designed the Sawyer Field tee because we thought it was pretty special that our hometown field carried its own name. This past spring, at a youth baseball game, a gentleman noticed the shirt and shared the story behind it—a story too meaningful not to pass along.

Long before bleachers and bright Friday night lights, the area was nothing more than a scruffy, wooded lot.

In 1940, after the new Hiltop gymnasium was built, a group of sports fans and civic-minded community members began to dream of a true athletic field nearby. Their plans were delayed when World War II began—Coach Keith left to serve in the Navy, and the materials needed to build the field became impossible to find.

But after the war, that dream came alive again. In the spring of 1948, locals formed Hiltop Football Incorporated, and just a few months later, history was made. On October 1, 1948, the Hiltoppers played their very first night game on Sawyer Field. Later that month, the field was officially dedicated in honor of Hillsboro students who gave their lives in World War II—a lasting tribute of pride, sacrifice, and community spirit.

That’s the legacy behind Sawyer Field. And now, with this reimagined design, the Sawyer Field tee carries that story forward—a classic staple for every Hiltopper wardrobe.
