⏰ 25 dogs must leave by Tuesday, June 30 at 6 PM.

❤️🤍💙 Twenty-five lives. Five days. One community. ❤️🤍💙

This week's urgent list comes right before the holiday weekend, when many rescues, fosters, and adopters already have plans. But what better way to celebrate Independence Day than giving one of these deserving dogs a freedom ride of their own? 🇺🇸❤️

As a reminder, more pets go missing around the Fourth of July than any other time of year because of fireworks. If you're welcoming a new dog this week, just be prepared to provide a little extra patience, reassurance, and a safe, quiet place to settle in.

As Prince George's County Animal Services continues through renovations, there has never been a better time to help dogs move from kennels—and in some cases, crates—into foster homes, rescue programs, and forever families. Every dog who leaves creates space, reduces stress, and gives another dog a better chance.

This week's urgent list includes 25 dogs of all ages, sizes, personalities, and energy levels. Whether you're looking for a walking buddy, a couch companion, or your next best friend, there's likely someone waiting for you.

🩷 Every share matters.
🩷 Every foster matters.
🩷 Every adopter, every pledge, every comment, and every tag helps.

These dogs need visibility NOW so adopters and rescues have time to make plans before Tuesday's deadline. We'll continue updating the album as dogs are confirmed safe, so please keep checking back, commenting, and sharing.

Introducing J’s leather repairs Senior Vice President of Morale: Drew

Some of you who have been to the shop have met him already.

Drew is a 12 year old lab mix who will be staying with me for the foreseeable future due to his diabetes. He was rescued by my mom 8 years ago but his health concerns means he needs some extra special attention.

So next time you’re dropping off your items for repair, feel free to give the best boy a pet!🥰

Powers out in the leather shop tonight! Hopefully will be restored soon! Sorry for any project delays!

We asked equine professionals, “What is one thing you wish clients understood?” Their answers are important for riders of all ages to read and understand.

“That “just one thing ” I do for you that takes me 5 minutes? Yeah, that actually adds an hour to my day. And if I don’t charge for doing the “little” extra things, then I can’t get to the big things”

“How hard it is to go 24/7 365 days of the year. And the money/time/mental facilities it takes to run the farm…”

“The tremendous amount of responsibility we carry on our shoulders. For the client, as well as the horse.”

“That horses aren’t vehicles that anyone can drive. You can’t just buy a 3’6″ horse and do the 3’6″ any more than you can just buy a grand prix horse and do the grand prix.”

“Organizing turnout is way harder than you expect. Who goes where, for how long, with a buddy or not. It is way more thoughtful than just putting a horse in a field.”

“The most expensive ponies are the old ones stepping down. If you want a deal, ask for a green or quirky one.”

“Just because I’m available to the horse 24/7 doesn’t mean I need to be available to the humans 24/7! Clients understand that we drop everything for the horses at all hours, and they expect the same for them which is really unfair. Clients who respect boundaries and our ability to have free time or a day off are worth their weight in gold.”

“There is no guarantee that your horse will stay sound.”

Next time you head to the barn or chat with your trainer, try keeping these things in mind. While questions are always welcome, the timing and the way that you ask them can be key. Remember, your trainer wants you and your horse to succeed, so there is almost always a reason for everything they do!

Let’s talk rivets!

In the first picture you will see 5 different rivets. From left to right: a size 9 copper rivet with its burr, a size 12 copper rivet with its burr, a size 14 copper rivet, a 3/16” diameter steel rivet, and a 1/8” diameter steel rivet.
What’s one thing they all have in common? They are solid! I use steel rivets when putting webbing into trees after removing point billets (picture 3), size 9 rivets for any saddle work that bears any weight (usually in western projects), and the other 2 are for lighter projects like bags, name plates etc.

Rivets are set with the setter in the first picture if you have burrs and otherwise trimmed and hand set using a ball peen hammer. 💪 Nice and strong!

In the second picture you will see a Chicago screw. I love them for name plates and bag handles. Did you notice that they are hollow? Not as strong as a rivet but they do have their place.

So imagine my surprise when a saddle came into my shop with a home repair where someone used the first pictured hammer to make a “rivet” out of the tube end of a Chicago screw to hold a billet onto their saddle. 😬 let’s just say not safe! (See pictures 4&5). I’m glad to say no one was injured!

Please, if your saddle has damage in any way, take it to a professional. That way you know you’re riding off safe and sound!
