Did you know? Goats are one of the few livestock species that can actually die from loneliness. π
Goats are highly social animals that form strong bonds with their herd. A goat kept alone or suddenly separated from a bonded companion can experience significant stress, which directly affects their immune function, appetite, and overall health.
This is why most experienced goat keepers say the minimum is always two. Not because it's more fun (although it is), but because a single goat without companionship is a goat that's working harder just to feel okay.
If you've ever noticed a solo goat going off feed, vocalizing excessively, or losing condition without a clear nutritional reason, companionship is often part of the answer. π
