Sundial Signal Cannon
Recently some folks stopped in needing some black powder for a cannon they had. The gentleman went out and retrieved this very cool cannon. We have been selling black powder for ever and have seen some unusual things. This is called a sundial cannon, When properly aligned on a North South axis. The rays of the sun can be directed through a lens to the priming powder or wick to get the party started. These cannons date back to the 1600's. The cannon was used to simply call in the hands for a midday meal or people used the bigger cannons to signal noon in the larger European parks. The one in the picture here is a commercial made sundial cannon. It is a working replica Although I did not get their names they agreed I could post this pic. So Thanks.
