I don’t know if it’s getting older, becoming more mature, learning to roll with the punches, or simply realizing that some things matter—but they’re not the end of the world.
We live in a fast-paced world where urgency seems to be everywhere. We’re rushing from one thing to the next, often speaking with shortness in our tone, frustration in our voices, and impatience in our hearts.
Sometimes we hit every red light when we’re already running late.
Sometimes the checker at the grocery store seems painfully slow when we have a hundred things left to do.
Sometimes a phone call drags on longer than we’d planned.
But what if we slowed down long enough to consider the other side of the story?
Maybe that phone call wasn’t an inconvenience at all. Maybe it was someone reaching out because they were having a hard day and didn’t know how to say it.
Maybe hitting every red light kept you from an accident or a speeding ticket.
Maybe that grocery store clerk is doing the best she can while dealing with pain you know nothing about.
There are so many variables behind every situation we encounter. When we choose love over assumptions, patience over irritation, and understanding over anger, life becomes a whole lot lighter.
Trust me—I have been the person yelling at the car in front of me. I’ve been quick to anger, quick to assume, and quick to react. There were seasons in my life when stress and worry were driving those responses.
But I’ve learned that slowing down changes everything.
Taking a breath before speaking.
Giving grace before judgment.
Choosing calm before reaction.
Ultimately, I want the fruits of the Spirit to shine through me. I want people to feel comfortable around me. I want them to see something different. I want my life to reflect a peace that can’t be shaken by every inconvenience.
I want people to look at the way I handle life’s frustrations and think, “I want that kind of calm. I want that kind of peace.”
So today, give a little extra grace. Offer a little more patience. Choose kindness when it’s easier to be frustrated.
And most of all…
I hope today you’re someone’s sunshine. ☀️
