Really proud of this one! My own design with driftwood I’ve been collecting from the sandbars. I was given free range to do whatever, so here’s my whatever. I love all the dark natural tones throughout the display. It’s a wall hanger but I have it propped up for now. I sure hope my customer will be pleased.

A turkey’s head changing colors during a hunt is one of the coolest things to watch! Here are the reasons for this happening:

Turkey heads change color—especially turning bright red—because of blood flow and mood/hormones.

Here’s what’s going on:

1. Blood flow (main reason)

* Turkeys have lots of bare skin with blood vessels in their head, neck, and snood.
* When more blood rushes to the surface, the skin turns red.
* Less blood = pale, bluish, or whitish look.

2. Emotions & behavior

* Excited / aggressive / showing dominance → bright red head
* Calm or relaxed → more pale or bluish
* Scared or alarmed → can turn pale or washed out

3. Breeding season (big one for gobblers)

* Male turkeys (gobblers) turn deep red, white, and blue when strutting.
* It’s basically a display to attract hens and intimidate other males.

4. Temperature regulation

* That exposed skin helps them release heat, and blood flow changes help control body temp.

So when you see a turkey’s head go red, it’s usually because it’s amped up—either showing off, mad, or excited.
