🦖🦕 Spinosaurus 🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Spine Lizard for its long prong spine.
Weight: 19,841 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous
Length: 59 ft.
Height: 18 ft. with sail.
Time on Earth: During the Cretaceous Period 112 -93 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: Egypt and Morroco
The first fossil was discovered in Egypt in 1912 and described by German Paleontologist Ernst Stromer. The fossil only included mainly the head and spine and was later destroyed during World War 2. Only detailed drawing remained. Eighty years later the another fossil was found in Morroco by Canadian Paleontologist Dale Russell. Scientist believe that the Spinosaurus lived both in land and water like today's Crocodiles. The spine is used for thermoregulation to keep the Spinosaurs body temperature at a regular state. The diet was mainly fish and hunted terrestrial prey when on land. The spine of the Spinosaurus is called the sail and is believed to have more fat like the hump backed mammals. The sail alone can grow up to 6 ft in length.
🦖🦕 Triceratops 🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Three Horned Face derived from Ancient Greek language.
Weight: 26,455 lbs.
Diet: Herbivorous
Length: 29 ft.
Height: 10ft.
Time on Earth: Late Cretaceous 68 - 66 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: North America's Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Hell Creek Montana all the way up into Canada's Alberta and Saskatchewan
The first Triceratops was found in 1877 by renowned Paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh. At first when discovered Othniel thought he found a type of Bison and named the Triceratops, Bison alticornis. Later he found two more Triceratop fossils and was convinced that what he had was not a Mammal but a Dinosaur. The Triceratops was well protected by its rugged skull against any opponent. The Triceratops also had 432 teeth that gave it strong chewing abilities. If one tooth was damaged the next one would be easily replaced. You can also determine the s*x of a Male and Female Triceratops by looking at thier horns. Females had shorter horns that leaned forward and the males had bigger skulls and the horns would face upright.
