🦖🦕🐙🦑Ammonoidea (Ammonites)🦑🐙🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Named after Ammon the Greek Ram God. The spiral shell has a resemblance of ram horns.
Weight: Less than 1 oz. - 1,554 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous
Length: From less than 1cm - 11 ft if fossil Parapuzosia seppenradensis found in Westphalia, Germany was complete.
Time on Earth: Devonian to Cretacious Period from 240 - 65 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: Worldwide
The ancestor of the modern day coleoids such as Octopuses, Squids, and Cuttlefish. This cephalopod mollusc once littered the world's oceans during the Devonian period in the Mesozoic Era. Named after a Ram God there are many ammonites that resemble Ram horns such as the Goat Horn Ammonites (Douvilleiceras) that have rough ridges. There are also Iridescent Ammonites named Ammolites that display a beautiful rainbow effect when in light. These Ammonites get their beautiful display when they became fossilized as the mineral Aragonite. The effect is caused by the diffracting of white light through the aragonite layers the Iridescent Ammonite has. Ammonites are also excellent Index Fossils that are used to link the geologic time period through certain rock layers. The ammonite liked to live directly above the sea floor and would maneuver through the ocean like a submarine having the ability to float and sink itself as well as use self propulsion shooting water out of an area below its mouth called the hypernome. The Ammonites diet mainly consisted of small crustaceans and starfish. Ammonites have always brought amazing variations of their shell in this world. Consider yourself lucky if you have one of these fossils at home.

🦖🦕🦈 Carcharocles Megalodon🦈🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Big Tooth, mega = big, don = tooth
Weight: 1500 - 2400 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous
Length: 30 - 60 ft.
Time on Earth: Neogene Period from 23 - 3.6 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: Worldwide
Know as the biggest fish in the ocean. You can find many Megalodon teeth around the earth worldwide. The Megalodon's skeleton was primarily cartilage. That is why there is no evidence of a full skeleton today other than its shed teeth. Was once a leader at the top of the ocean food chain. When populations declined the shark was later overruled by giant fish and whales such as the S***m Whale, Killer Whale, and replaced by smaller sharks which changed the biodiversity for these animals. The Megalodon could have been victim to S***m Whales and Killer Whales and other sharks but that is still in debate. Megalodon teeth like the great white have serrated edges to tear through its prey and also had a single bite force of 40,131 lbs per square inch. That is over five times stronger than the Tyrannosaurus rex. Really the biggest and most monstrous fish of all time.

🦖🦕Archaeopteryx lithographica🦕🦖

Name Meaning:Archaeopteryx - Old Wing referring to it being the first bird or non-avian Dinosaur. The German name is Urvogel meaning original bird or first bird. Lithographica- The printing stone. Achaeopteryx lithographica- Ancient wing from the printing stone.

Weight: 1 -2.2 lbs.

Diet: Carnivorous

Length: 2.3 ft.

Time on Earth: The Late Jurrasic Period from 150 Million Years Ago to 148 Million Years Ago

Fossil Location: Germany

The Archaeopteryx lithographica was found in limestone. The same stone we use for printing. The Ancient wing from the printing stone is a name well suited for the earliest ancestor of today's birds. This is still in debate with a lot of Paleontologist worldwide. The Archaeopteryx's wings have three fingers which made it suitable to climb trees really high. The feathers of the Archaeopteryx made it suitable for gliding from tree to tree. This would make the Archaeopteryx more of a glider than a flyer. There is still debate on the colors of the feathers. The feathers were scanned using electron microscopy and showed that it was not a colorful bird but had a 95% chance that it was a dark and well camouflaged bird. Around the same size and coloration of today's Raven. The Archaeopteryx's characteristics show that it transitioned from Dinosaur to bird leaving this animal a transitional species.

🦖🦕🦂Eurypterid - Mixopterus kiaeri størmer (Norway's Sea Scorpion)🦂🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Named after Norwegian Paleontologist and Geologist Leif Størmer. Mixopterus is the family and kiaeri is the species.
Weight: 45 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous
Length: 2.3 ft.
Time on Earth: The Late Silurian Period from 426 Million Years Ago to 420 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: Ringerike, Norway
The Mixopterus kiaeri størmer is a Eurypterid sea arthropod. Known as a Sea Scorpion they would also walk on land. On land this Eurypterid was heavy and the tail was brought overhead to balance the creature much like its relative the scorpion. The last pair of legs are paddle-like appendages that helped the creature swim in the water. This Eurypterid was not a good swimmer and would reside at the bottom of shallow waters. An in-between adaption of both the land and sea the Eurypterid was okay at both movements. The huge advantage was its disguise hiding in the sand and caging prey with its huge frontal appendages that had sharp spines. The Mixopterus kiaeri størmer was found in the Ringerike region of Norway which was once swamps during the Silurian period.

🦖🦕 Tyrannosaurus rex 🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Tyrrano means tyrant because of its huge size. Rex meaning King.
Weight: 14,000 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous
Length: 43 ft.
Height: 13 ft.
Time on Earth: Late Cretaceous 68 - 66 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: Western North America
The apex predator of North America. The greatest meat-eater of all time. The Tyrannosaurus rex could rip through any other Carnivores flesh with its massive thirteen inch long bladed, chiseled teeth. The Tyrannosaurus Rex's teeth are the largest dinosaur teeth known. The average life expectancy of the Tyrannosaurus Rex was 28 years old. Finding very little evidence of juvenile Tyrannosaurus fossils, scientist came to conclusion that the Tyrannosaurus from age 14 to 18 gained up to 13,000 lbs. The Tyrannosaurus had strong neck muscles to support its big head. The tail was used too counter-balance the Tyrannosaurus Rex and strong legs were used for speed scientists believe. The scene where Tyrannosaurus Rex runs after the Jeep in Jurrasic Park can be possible making these carnivores, giant runners. The small hands with two fingers is still a mystery to what they were used for too scientists. The Tyrannosaurus Rex will always be considered a pop icon due to how awesome, and mysterious this dinosaur is.
🦖🦕 Spinosaurus 🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Spine Lizard for its long prong spine.
Weight: 19,841 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous
Length: 59 ft.
Height: 18 ft. with sail.
Time on Earth: During the Cretaceous Period 112 -93 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: Egypt and Morroco
The first fossil was discovered in Egypt in 1912 and described by German Paleontologist Ernst Stromer. The fossil only included mainly the head and spine and was later destroyed during World War 2. Only detailed drawing remained. Eighty years later the another fossil was found in Morroco by Canadian Paleontologist Dale Russell. Scientist believe that the Spinosaurus lived both in land and water like today's Crocodiles. The spine is used for thermoregulation to keep the Spinosaurs body temperature at a regular state. The diet was mainly fish and hunted terrestrial prey when on land. The spine of the Spinosaurus is called the sail and is believed to have more fat like the hump backed mammals. The sail alone can grow up to 6 ft in length.
🦖🦕 Triceratops 🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Three Horned Face derived from Ancient Greek language.
Weight: 26,455 lbs.
Diet: Herbivorous
Length: 29 ft.
Height: 10ft.
Time on Earth: Late Cretaceous 68 - 66 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: North America's Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Hell Creek Montana all the way up into Canada's Alberta and Saskatchewan
The first Triceratops was found in 1877 by renowned Paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh. At first when discovered Othniel thought he found a type of Bison and named the Triceratops, Bison alticornis. Later he found two more Triceratop fossils and was convinced that what he had was not a Mammal but a Dinosaur. The Triceratops was well protected by its rugged skull against any opponent. The Triceratops also had 432 teeth that gave it strong chewing abilities. If one tooth was damaged the next one would be easily replaced. You can also determine the s*x of a Male and Female Triceratops by looking at thier horns. Females had shorter horns that leaned forward and the males had bigger skulls and the horns would face upright.

🦖🦕 Seymouria🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Named after the town in Texas where the first fossil was found.
Weight: 23 lbs.
Diet: Carnivorous
Length: 24 in.
Time on Earth: Early Permian Period from 280 - 260 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: North America, Europe
Resembling a reptile the Seymouria is a type of tetrapod Amphibian known as a Reptiliomorph. The Seymouria began its life as a tadpole like frogs do and then made it to land. When adapting to land they would sprout scales to conserve water. The Seymouria also had a gland in its nostrils that excreted salt which kept Seymouria on land. Spending most of their life on land, the females would go back to their childhood spring and lay eggs. Its eating habits included a lot of eggs as it was known as an apex egg thief. The Seymouria would also eat insects and other amphibians making it a carnivore.

🦖🦕 Pterosaur - Quetzalcoatlus Northropi 🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Named after the Aztec Serpent Feather God Quetzalcoatl. Northropi is to honor John Northrop of Northrop who created tail less flying planes that resembles the way Quetzalcoatlus flies.
Weight: 450 - 550 lbs.
Diet: Hunted small vertebrates and ate dead carcasses when away from sea and flying above land. When over ocean the Quetzacoatlus Northropi would skim for fish.
Height: 15-20 ft.
Wingspan Width: 36 ft.
Geochronology Epoch Timescale : Late Cretaceous 100 - 66 Million Years Ago
Geochronology Period Timescale : Cretaceous 146 - 66 Million Years Ago
Time on Earth: 70 to 66 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: The once was Swamp Lands of Texas North America at Big Bend National Park
The largest known animal that ever flew the skies. Same size in comparison to a Cessna 172 plane. In comparison to the height of a giraffe the Quetzalcoatlus Northropi are eye to eye in height. Would land and walk on all fours. (Wings and hind legs.) Takes off like a bat and pushes body up into the air with its forelimbs. Known to not have much of a tail these pterosaurs viewed from land and looking into the sky to be like staring up at the silhouette of the Supersonic Jet Concorde. One of the greatest evolutionary designs for any animal these pterosaurs rarely had to flap their wings as their 36 foot wingspan could soar the skies. They could also travel extremely long distances by not being so tired from flapping. Distances as long as 10,000 Miles Nonstop!(That is the width of four United States side by side laid next to each other width wise.) Record breaking! The Quetzalcoatlus Northropi is a truly made Master Of The Skies.

🦖🦕 Ankylosauridae -Tarchia Kielanae 🦕🦖
Name Meaning: Tarchia means the brainy one due to the size difference of the brain on these Ankylosaurs. Kielanae is to honor Polish Paleobiologist Zofia Kielan-Jaworowska who led the expedition with Teresa Maryansk who named the Dinosaur.
Weight: 3,307 lbs.
Diet: Herbivorous plant eating Dinosaur
Length: 22 ft.
Width: 5 ft.
Height: 9 ft.
Geochronology Epoch Timescale : Late Cretaceous 100 - 66 Million Years Ago
Geochronology Period Timescale : Cretaceous 146 - 66 Million Years Ago
Time on Earth: 75 to 68 Million Years Ago
Fossil Location: Gobi Desert in Mongolia
The largest and most complete skeleton of the Ankylosaurid and most recent finding. From the Gobi Desert in Mongolia the Tarchia Kielanae has relative Ankylosauridae in Hell Creek, Montana and other parts of North America. Such a vast distance for the similar dinosaur species. Died surely about 65 Million years ago during the K/T Extinction the Tarchia Kielanae were some of the last dinosaurs on earth. How scientist believed they survived was due to how adapted they were with their cold-blooded metabolism which enabled it to weather the K/T Extinction. As small as this dinosaurs brain was it was well designed for any predator such as the Allosaurus not to eat it. Horn spikes all over its wide body and skull made it extremely hard to flip the Dinosaur over to eat at its belly. This Dinosaur also had a really strong tail with a club like bone that would break the legs of any Dinosaur who dared compete. The Tarchia Kielanae is a really strong and grounded Dinosaur.
