One more big push this week, then we start our summer “slow down.” I’m already starting to feel the pace change and we’ve got some good help on board this summer. I’m really looking forward to all we can get done before sales pick back up in August!

It’s not often you see this handsome fellas face around here, so I’m grateful for this shot from of Tyler dropping off at . While you see my face most of the time in this space doing the growing stuff, this farm wouldn’t run without him and his support. When I said “let’s buy a farm so I can grow flowers” he said “ok,” and has continued to say “ok” to all my harebrained ideas for the past 10 years. I am so lucky. 🩷

Things I’m *trying* to do to take care of my mind and body this growing season.
1. Having a quitting time. No more “I’ll come in when I finish,” because I’m never actually finished. 🤣
2. Taking a lunch break, a whole hour. I read my book, cool down, eat slowly, hydrate.
3. Keeping a few hours on Sunday to work in MY garden beds. Not farm stuff, just piddlin’ time.
4. Taking July “off.” We’ve been going since January, we need a break before the hectic fall season. By break I mean predominately from selling commitments. We will still be weeding, planting and everything in between all summer. 🌱
Still failing at these regularly, that’s the cost of a business dealing with Mother Nature but having “rules” even if I have to break them, have been good bumper guards for me mentally.

Lol’ing at these dahlias I was too lazy to dig in the high tunnel, gave no added protection to and were swallowed by weeds until two weeks ago. Just a reminder friends, plants want to live!

Honestly farming requires insanity and flowers require whimsy so I think I’m in the right place 🤣

I should’ve spent my too few hours of the day weeding but I took cuttings from our shrubs instead. I’ll save weeding for a more rage-y day, plant propagation is for soothing an anxious mind. 🌱
