Here is an example of how hollow the hollow cove really is. I have my rim templates on top of a solid body Cove I’m working on, but this is what it would look like with the rims glued to the back. 3/4 in rims and a block for the bridge and that’s it! I usually say it’s somewhere between a hollow body, and a semi hollow but with no f hole. Super lightweight being hollow and made from roasted woods.

I’d been building guitars professionally since 2012, but for years I felt like I was waiting for permission to finally make my own designs. I’d sketched shapes, offsets, semi‑hollows… nothing ever felt like the one.

Then I started to become obsessed with old department store guitars like silver tone and danelectro. I thought the vibe they had was incredible. They looked built for Rock n Roll but lacked the quality of a high end instrument. That was the spark.

I started drawing my own version — not a copy, but a reinvention. Better materials, better structure, my own voice in the lines. I used scrap wood from years in the industry: a spruce top, northern ash, and a bolt‑on neck with threaded inserts to elevate the build.

When I finished that first one, it was super resonant, lightweight, and had a voice unlike any single‑coil guitar I’d played. Around 5.5 lbs, if I remember right. It was quite an outstanding prototype and I knew it was good enough to make someone happy.

That was the moment I knew I had something worth pursuing. I made the tooling, refined the design, built solid bodies and basses… and that’s how the Cove was born.
