Why Do Some Shotguns Have No Rib at All?

Not every double was built with a conventional top rib.

Some guns use ribless or partially ribless barrel arrangements, leaving more of the individual barrel tubes exposed.

Depending on the design, reducing rib material can affect weight and handling while giving the gun a very distinctive appearance.

The bead at the end of a shotgun rib isn’t meant to be aimed like the sights on a rifle.

With a properly fitted shotgun, your eye effectively becomes the rear sight.

The bead is simply a visual reference while your attention stays on the moving target.

Shotguns are pointed far more than they’re aimed.
