It's amazing what a beat up .257 Weatherby Mark V can become.
If you hunt or shoot regularly, your stock is going to get damaged eventually...but it doesn't have to stay that way.
You need to know how to get scuffs & marks out of your rifle.
Use compound!
Here's how: 🧵
When I do restorations for customers I always use a 3-stage compound polish/glaze.
Spending the time to go through the stages of making your stock shine will pay off in the long run.
Protection. Weather-resistance. Looks.
1) HEAVY SCRATCHES: Start w/ a rubbing compound & clean soft cloth (chamois if possible).
Just use a little bit. Keep it small and apply it in a circular motion.
DON'T RUB TOO LONG. This is important so you don't burn through the clear coat.
Buff clean.
2) LIGHT SCRATCHES: Use Polishing Glaze w/ a terry cloth.
Same thing...use a small amount & let the cloth do the work.
If you do it right, you'll see the scratches that were visible disappear when you buff it clean.
If they're still there you need another round of polishing.
3) HIGH GLOSS: For that amazing polished look use an Ultra Fine Polishing Glaze.
Using a microfiber cloth, start with a small amount and rub lightly in circles over a small area.
Test it out in a small spot & buff it clean to see the comparison.
If it's not the shine you want, do it again, this time for longer.
You can polish this step longer than the others because it's fine enough not to burn through the finish...just DON'T PRESS HARD.
Depending on the compounds/polish you use, you'll get various results.
At the Custom Shop, Inc. I use our own formula specifically made for museum-quality restorations.

This is the exact same process & compound I used to get that finish on the Weatherby.
Keep your rifle in good shape & it'll last for a lifetime.
