One of the rarest hydrangeas we carry, Hydrangea x versicolor is a hybrid between Hydrangea (formerly Dichroa) febrifuga and Hydrangea macrophylla that we first acquired as X Didrangea. Thankfully it's easier to grow them than to keep up with their botanical classification! While they might be a stretch for some of our colder zone customers, for those in zone 6b or lower they're a low maintanence, easy grower with some of the most unique flowers we've seen. Pearly pink buds open to lavender-bluish, star-shaped flowers with blue stamens and the color intensifies the older the clusters get. And if that wasn't enough, it'll definitely stymie your plant geek friends trying to figure out what it is!
