Did you know? Every November, as many as 3,000 bald eagles gather along the Chilkat River near Haines, creating one of the world's largest gatherings of bald eagles.

The reason is a unique combination of nature. Groundwater-fed channels keep parts of the river from freezing, allowing a late chum salmon run to continue when food has become scarce elsewhere. The result is an unforgettable wildlife spectacle that attracts photographers, birdwatchers, and nature lovers from around the world.

The annual Alaska Bald Eagle Festival celebrates this remarkable event with eagle viewing, educational programs, and conservation activities.

It's one of the most incredible wildlife experiences Alaska has to offer.
