So how did small bookstores make their comeback? Well, it seems that many people simply prefer not to confine their reading to the digital world, nor their shopping to exploitative, union-busting warehouses. A third of Americans now see Big Tech as the largest threat to the nation’s future, which suggests that years of exhortations to “shop small” have likely found receptive audiences.

There’s also the singular experience of patronizing a local bookstore, where clerks are on hand to offer expert guidance, locally relevant selections hold pride of place on front tables, and where shoppers may encounter friends, neighbors, and their next favorite reads. While browsing in a physical store, readers are three times more likely to stumble upon a new book they’re interested in than they are when scrolling through Amazon’s interface.

Americans fight back against big tech.

Valley Friends, I need a help finding a customer! She came in today and bought four items, a couple for a 4 year old, and the next customer was erroneously charged the same amount and I refunded the wrong customer for $112.14. The woman I accidentally credited has lived here forever, maybe mid to late 60s, gray hair pulled back with maybe some bangs. Her mother used to own Skin Tights in Ketchum sewing for a lot of figure skaters. She is walking the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage in August with a friend... We had a lovely conversation but I cannot remember her name! If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it! With uber security, it is difficult to contact the credit card company! Trust me, I have tried! Thank you!

I have been sitting on this news for more than a few hot minutes and I am so excited to finally share this! Iconoclast Books & Gifts, The Community Library and the Hailey Public Library will be hosting events for Cole Nicole LeFavour and their new book,
"In the Arms of Mountains".

In this memoir LeFavour shares the journey from their 2-mile walk to the school bus along a dirt road to their monumental election as Idaho’s first openly q***r state senator. Cole recounts anti-apartheid protests at Berkeley, the solitary life of a fire lookout, and the gravitational pull of unexpected romance and loss.
Haunting, hopeful, and full of fight, Cole’s story reminds us of what’s possible when we look beyond red and blue, right and left, to meet each other at the edge of the wild.

“American Fantasy is such a fun, delicious, big-hearted book.” —Taylor Jenkins Reid
“Comedy and redemption on the high seas...breezy, tenderhearted.”— The New York Times

In 2017 I read Laurie Frankel, Author's novel, This is How it Always Is (a MUST READ) and I have been a fan ever since. Her newest novel, Enormous Wings is a gem! It is an urgent novel about female agency and bodily autonomy, morality and mortality. It’s about what happens when you don’t get to choose anymore. It’s about motherhood and family, s*x and love and friendship, and how those bedrocks—even so late in the day—can still change, and then change everything.

I have read SOOOO many books since my last post but I have to highlight this one... Every 10 books or so I read a thriller. Many of you know that I am not a big fan of celebrity bookclubs but I have learned that I LOVE Jenna Bush Hager's selections and I don't recall if I have ever seen a Psych/Thriller on her list so I had to read this one! I have read a few of Gillian McAllister's novels and this one is GREAT!
