Historical BackgroundBumstead's Worm Syrup was marketed as a vermifuge to treat intestinal parasites like roundworms and tapeworms. It was developed around 1855 by Dr. Charles A. Voorhees, a Philadelphia physician. After his death in 1898, the business was continued by his daughter, Margaret Voorhees, who maintained the trademark well into the 20th century.The product was famous for its bold marketing slogans often embossed on the bottles, such as: "One bottle has killed 100 worms". "Children cry for more".
