I read through Governor Sherill's Data Center guardrail proposal. It's outrageously weak. There is no limitation for water or energy use -while you and me are increasingly constrained in both. There is no limitation on where the centers can be built, keep in mind, they are almost always built in traditional open space farmland areas and close to high water tables such as the Pinelands. This proposal is a big indicator to me how this politician is actually corporate over people. She's full of it.
There is nothing in this proposal that deters developers from building anywhere really, and nothing in this proposal that deters data distributors from consuming local resources to heart's content. It's also notable that while the proposal asks data centers to pay for their own power use, it does not require them to pay for the power lines and extensive infrastructure for power transmission. And this is what has been so costly to you and me so far, as charges to consumers. These costs are applied to our bills when as centers are built -*even*- if they are not occupied.
No thanks Sherill- the data in your center is bu****it.
