Week 2 of June:
342 sales.
Our goal was over 1,000.

I’m not going to pretend this doesn’t sting. I’ve been exhausted and low lately. Summer is always tough for small bookshops, and right now it feels especially heavy. We don’t even have the energy to go into how dire things are.

It’s getting harder and harder to pull our bootstraps up and find the hope to see the light at the end of the tunnel in a time when everyone in this country is struggling. We are still here, but honestly we don’t know for how much longer.

This isn’t a pity party post. We actually dread making these updates because it feels desperate and like we’re begging. We’ve talked about stopping them, but people tell us we need to stay transparent and not just disappear.

If you’ve loved a read from us, told a friend, or meant to stop by, now’s the time. Every visit, share, and purchase matters more than ever.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported us so far. We’re still turning pages and hoping for brighter weeks ahead. We know some have been waiting on their orders. Rest assured we’re just waiting on a few book deliveries to come in. ❤️📚

📚 Meet our next Indie Author coming to A Novel Idea Bookshop just in time for Father’s Day weekend!

Join us Saturday, June 13th from 3–5 PM as we welcome author Neil Turner for a special signing of his heartfelt book, The Daddy Essays.

Neil Turner grew up surrounded by storytellers and spent years secretly sharpening his writing skills… including writing papers for classmates in high school while somehow getting better grades on their assignments than his own. Honestly, we respect the hustle. 😂

From working on farms and ranches to fry cooking, bakery work, butcher shops, and eventually engineering, Neil’s life has been full of stories worth telling. But after the heartbreaking loss of his daughter, writing became something even deeper. Through grief, humor, and the beautiful chaos of parenthood, he created The Daddy Essays, a collection of reflections and lessons from his unique journey as a father.

This event feels especially meaningful right before Father’s Day. Whether you’re a parent, missing a parent, raising kids, loving kids, or just appreciate deeply human stories, we think Neil’s words will resonate with so many people. ❤️

Swifties, we have some bad news… and some good news. 💔✨

Unfortunately, we have to postpone our Taylor Swift Party. The majority of our party supplies are still in transit and won’t arrive in time for this Saturday’s event.

Rather than throw a half-decorated party that doesn’t live up to the Eras Tour level of fun we had planned, we’ve decided to move the event to Saturday , June 27th.

We know this is disappointing, and we’re so sorry for the change. We have been tracking packages daily and were really hoping everything would arrive in time.

The good news? This gives us a little more time to make the party even bigger, sparkly-er, and more magical. ✨ Friendship bracelets, Swiftie fun, and all the Taylor vibes are still coming. Just a couple weeks later than planned.

Thank you for understanding and for always supporting our little indie bookshop. We can’t wait to celebrate with you on June 27th! 🫶
