Our beloved Jack who was Bakers’ Acres greenhouse cat, passed away today. He decided to stay on the property when we left in December of 2021. The new owner agreed to keep him and the tenants in the home on the property fell in love with him. Jo made regualar visits to him and provided food and vet visits for him. He was almost 20 years old.
RIP Jack.

Well we are busy making wreaths. These are just a few that will be going to Dickman Farms in Auburn and some are for Moore's Christmas Tree Farm. Greenhouse #3 smells like Christmas. We are happy to make a wreath, centerpiece or boxwood tree for you. Just call if you have any questions. 607-533-4653. We are now Open by Chance or by Appointment but are here weekdays from 8-4. Weekends are strictly by appointment.
The apples are all picked off the trees and we are sold out of one that we picked. But we still have some herbs, succulents and lots of very inexpensive yard sale items. There is still some lumber left in the barn and lots of shelving for retail use. Call and stop by. The place looks barren but still lots that have to go.
We also have a Power King tractor for sale with a mower.

Well the perennials are all gone. But we still have lots of herbs and some succulents left. Lots of Fairy Garden supplies, yard sale items, lumber, shelves, desks, filing cabinets, sign holders, and much more. We will keep our regular hours through this weekend, and on Monday we start making wreaths. So we are Open by Chance or by Appointment. 607-533-4653.
We still have a couple of trees loaded with apples. I believe they are Braeburn.
Jack the cat is looking for more company.

We had a fabulous Farewell event on this past Saturday. Despite the rain, it was probably the busiest day we have had in our 41 years. Thank you everyone!
I think that our advertising was unclear that despite our Farewell party, we are still here M-F 8-5 and weekends 9-5. We still have items to sell but not so much in the plants section. We still have lots of items in our 'Yardsale' section, a few pieces of equipment, a hayride wagon, lumber that has collected in the barn over the years, and much more.
There are still a few apples to pick. Cathy just went out to check and there are plenty of Braeburns, Super Empires(cross of a empire and northern spy), and smoothies(golden delicious). We have a few left of other varieties.
Come on out to visit. We will keep regular hours until the end of October and them we will be Open By Chance or Appointment in November and December while we make our wreaths.

By the way, this picture was taken in May. It does not look like this now.

This beautiful arrangement was delivered to Bakers' Acres last Friday from Michaleens. This is a testimony on what a fantastic business that they are. We so appreciated this beautiful gesture and kindness. It also did not go unnoticed the perennials that were used in the arrangement. This is another reason we enjoyed being a business in Lansing. So many other businesses were so supported of each other.
Thanks Michaleens!

With a heavy heart I have to announce that Bakers’ Acres will be closing it’s doors at the end of this year. We are so grateful that so many of you continue to be so loyal to us, and we will miss you as much as you will miss Bakers’ Acres. The stories we have heard the last couple of months have been so heartwarming and humbling. I think what pleases Cathy and I the most is that with all of your kind words, we now know that we successfully carried on mom’s mission and legacy to inspire our community to become successful and happy gardeners.
We wish the best for our loyal and talented employees that have worked so hard for us over the years. Many of you may know that working in horticulture is much more for the love of it rather to get rich doing it. Cathy and I are looking forward to some down time after 41 years of long hours and sleepless nights. Cathy plans to work more with her husband on their landscaping business. I hope to maybe try something new, but I am sure I will always return to some sort of Horticulture/agriculture based job.
As bad as the Covid pandemic has been, it too has inspired our community to spend more time outdoors and in their garden. One of our regrets is that we will not be here to watch the new interest in gardening continue to grow. We have seen so many new faces in the last 2 years and so much enthusiasm. What pleases us even more is to meet young parents who came here as kids and are now bring their kids. As enthusiasm grows so will new garden centers pop up and we hope they will offer the variety of plants that we were able to offer.
I will leave you with some of the lyrics taken from the song Woodstock by Joni Mitchell. “We are Stardust. We are Golden. But we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.”
