One of the reasons I started Anchor & Olive was to honor my late grandparents Dominic & Joyce DeRosa. This time of year always has me thinking of their incredible parties with handmade EVERYTHING including the sausage on the handmade pizza dough with homemade pizza sauce. They literally ground the meat with seasoning and fennel into casing, to top the pizza and pastas. They made dirty martinis and always had homemade giardinaira (pickled veggies which was mostly olives), candied apples, pignolata, homemade meatballs, Italian roast beef sandwiches, home cured beef jerky, SOS cookies and so many more foods and sweets made with so.much.love. I miss them every single day, especially this time of year…but we keep memories alive with their recipes (still in their hand writing), also the dishes, platters, napkins, tea towels, artwork and home decor in Anchor & Olive that’s inspired by this old school generation, and by these amazing women who spent all day preparing for these holiday parties and dinners. Also for the amazing people who still do it and carry on these traditions!
I’m lucky enough to have an amazing mother in law who keeps tradition alive and sets the most beautiful tablescape every Christmas. We have crab legs and shrimp from blue bay along with her homemade cheesy potatoes and so many other delicious things. I get off easily with salad and dessert but feel confident knowing I’m at least serving them in style with beautiful dishes from the store and bringing hostess gifts to die for. Thank you all for shopping with us and let’s keep these traditions alive this year and every holiday season!
We will be closed the 25th, 26th and 27th to spend time with family and friends. We will see you on Saturday the 28th. #
