Follow along as we introduce the 2026 Annual Trial Gardens Competition plots!

The Grand Marais Garden Club brings a tribute to America’s beginnings to Plot 4, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with a garden inspired by the original Betsy Ross flag.

Red and white begonias represent the flag’s 13 original stripes, while 13 stars of blue ageratum symbolize the 13 colonies. Red cannas, blue salvia, and native little bluestem grasses continue the patriotic theme, while a natural area featuring echinacea, yarrow, and hyssop pays tribute to plants native to the newly formed nation.

The Annual Trial Gardens, presented by the Grosse Pointe Garden Center, are located on the grounds of the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Visit the gardens to experience each garden club’s unique interpretation of this year’s theme. 🌼

The Grosse Pointe Garden Center’s Victory Garden, located at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Trial Gardens, demonstrates how a food garden can be both productive and beautiful, even in a limited space.

The 2026 garden features a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers while showcasing crop rotation, succession planting, companion planting, and vertical growing techniques. Pollinator-friendly flowers also help attract beneficial insects and add beauty to the garden. 🌻🥕🌿

The Victory Garden offers practical ideas and inspiration that gardeners can take home and use in their own gardens throughout the growing season!

The Junior League of Detroit Gardeners brings a patriotic retreat to Plot 3, celebrating America’s 250th Birthday with a vibrant red, white, and blue design.

A striped border, blue star, colorful blooms, and a peaceful bench create a space to rest, relax, and reflect. Thoughtful details, including a water station for birds and insects, highlight the connection between garden beauty and nature.

Since 1952, the Trial Gardens have been a living showcase of creativity, horticulture, and community. Each year, eight local garden clubs transform the historic plots with original designs inspired by a unique annual theme.

This year's theme, selected by 2025 winner Grosse Pointe Farm & Garden, celebrates the 250th Anniversary of our Nation.

Experience the beauty of local gardens through the eyes of talented artists in our Art From the Gardens exhibition. Inspired by this year's Garden Tour, the collection showcases a variety of artistic interpretations that celebrate the colors, textures, and tranquility found throughout our community.

The exhibition is on display through July 31 in the Hallway Gallery at The War Memorial, and we invite you to stop by and enjoy these unique works of art.

Join us for a special Meet the Artists Reception on Thursday, July 16, from 6:30–8:00 p.m. in the Hallway Gallery at The War Memorial. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists, learn about their inspiration and creative process, and experience the exhibition in a welcoming community setting.
