Warbirds in Review "Grumman CATS" Wednesday, July 27 at 10am CST. AirVenture OSH.
Grumman's claim to fame in the aerospace field is their iconic Big Cat line of Navy fighters, dating back to the F4F Wildcat in the late 1930s. The carrier-borne fighter designs that began with the Wildcat and ended with the F-14 Tomcat of “Top Gun” fame were chiefly fighters; their names were taken from different feline species or, during the World War II years, a derivative of the “cat” name with an adjective in front of it.

Each of these incredible fighter aircraft were not only advanced for their day but would have Grumman’s unique style of being named after cats that became near-synonymous with Grumman’s Navy fighters. Photos Courtesy Fagen Fighters WWII Museum, Scott Slocum, Lewis Air Legends.

Warbirds in Review, July 25 at 10am, EAA AirVenture 2022! Can't make it in person? Watch the LiveStream on all our social platforms.
The Lysander is a strange airplane. Compared to the Spitfire or Mustang it’s a big aircraft, with a wingspan of about 50 feet. It was designed for short takeoffs and landings from rough, unprepared airfields, its role was to provide the British army with reconnaissance, artillery-spotting and general communications capability.

Nicknamed the “Lizzie”, the Lysander was produced by Westland Aircraft and used immediately before and during the Second World War. Like other British army air co-operation aircraft, it was given the name of a military leader; in this case, the Spartan General Lysander. The first Lysanders entered service in June 1938. Presented by Scotts Miracle-Gro. Special Thanks Fagen Fighters WWII Museum.

Colin L. Powell, who in four decades of public life served as the
nation’s top soldier, diplomat and national security adviser, and
whose speech at the United Nations in 2003 helped pave the way for the United States to go to war in Iraq, passed away today. He was 84.
A leader in every sense of the word, his leadership rules have
wide-ranging applicability beyond military, political and diplomatic spheres. In an interview Powell noted "People have asked me, 'What would you have done if you hadn't gone into the Army?' I'd say I'd probably be a bus driver, I don't know," Powell said. In honor of his lifetime of public service, we would like to offer his book “My American Journey” at a special price of $100.00. This is a beautiful Signature edition book! Leather, Foil-stamped, limited edition with "portrait" end papers. Signed in pencil by: https://aviationautographs.com/products/my-american-journey
Colin Powell is the embodiment of the American dream. He was
born in Harlem to immigrant parents from Jamaica. He knew the
rough life of the streets. He overcame a barely average start at
school. Then he joined the Army. The rest is history—Vietnam, the Pentagon, Panama, Desert Storm—but a history that has been known only on the surface.
In this book Colin Powell himself tells us how it happened, in a
memoir distinguished by a heartfelt love of country and family,
warm good humor, and a soldier's directness.
My American Journey is the powerful story of a life well lived
and well told. It is also a view from the mountaintop of the political landscape of America.
