So I don’t think this poor book even got to TOUCH the shelf. Anna came in with an armful of books to restock, and several people happened to be right there talking and one saw the cover (kudos to Rodrigo Corral Design / Ben Wiseman – well done) and said, Fordlandia? What’s that book?, and more or less snatched it from her.
A bit of the blurb on the back:
“In 1927, Henry Ford, the richest man in the world, bought a tract of land twice the size of Delaware in the Brazilian Amazon. His intention was to grow rubber, but the project rapidly evolved into a more ambitious bid to export America itself. Fordlandia, as the settlement was called, soon became the site of an epic clash.” …
Well gosh. That’s a Surprise.
I’m going to skip all the obvious rants and sidetrails we could spin off with just that much, but I do want to check in with you.
Am I the only one who never even heard the word “Fordlandia” before, much less the story?
I really love having books here. I think every gallery should have books.
