A snow-covered Stone Arch Bridge crossing McCormick’s Creek at McCormick's Creek State Park in Spencer. Constructed by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) workers in the 1930s, the bridge was made from limestone partially quarried from the park and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places - NPS. (Brent Drinkut/Indiana DNR).

Find out where you can see the bridge, climb up the park’s fire tower, enjoy a stay at Canyon Inn or visit the nature center at on.IN.gov/mccormickscreek.

Caught my first fish of the year yesterday! 🥳 And first fish caught since Thanksgiving... those 74 days were long, dark, and cold 😁 Well, January was a bit rough 🥶
Went out to the backyard pond wearing a hoodie, shorts & sunglasses at 4pm which was the warmest part of the day (~51°) 😎 Great to soak in sunshine along the water's edge and feel that familiar tug at the end of the line 🤩 Can't wait to get clients catching fish this spring! 🙌

Help DNR biologists track mudpuppy populations by reporting sightings. Mudpuppies live their entire lives in water, but are secretive and difficult to locate. In winter, this species of special concern moves to shallow water and are more frequently caught by anglers. You can also see them from shore walking on lake bottoms using a flashlight at night.

Mudpuppies are not dangerous or poisonous. They are identified by the red, fluffy gills on the back of their head; the gills tend to lay flat against their body when they are out of the water.

IF YOU CATCH A MUDPUPPY, please photograph it, cut your fishing line, and release the mudpuppy back into the water. REPORT mudpuppy observations to the DNR herpetologist at [email protected] with a clear photograph of it, the date, and the location where it was found.

We appreciate your help tracking this unique salamander.
