Springdale Water Gardens

The monthly bird walk here at Springdale Water Gardens was enjoyed by 4 hardy birders. We spent two hours looking, mostly, in the wooded area of Old Quarry Lane. The cool shade made for a pleasant experience and we enjoyed lots of "birdy" conversation as we tallied 30 species.

Highlights included a nice view of a Yellow-billed Cuckoo and two others heard farther away, Northern Flicker calling and two Eastern Wood-Pewee were heard with one seen. A Wood Thrush melody was heard and an Ovenbird called out to us. Most birds were shy and only heard except for all of the Catbirds and Red-winged Blackbirds that are everywhere.

We will host the monthly bird walk at Springdale Water Gardens on Friday May 8th at 8 AM. Looks like a great day, weather wise.

Plenty of parking at 340 Old Quarry Lane, Greenville. We'll see what we can find along the ponds, stream and woodlands. Lasting up to 2 hours, please dress for the weather and remember we can be colder here.

Birding walk tomorrow at 8 am. Dress warmly and prepare for some wet ground. I'm excited to share with everyone that comes.

Everyone is invited to Springdale Water Gardens on Friday 3/13 at 8 am for our first Bird Watching Tour of the season. We will walk the property and about 1/4 mile of Old Quarry ln. Dress for cooler weather as we can be much colder than surrounding areas at almost 2000 feet of elevation. (Think Afton Mtn)

Walk will last at least one hour and more if I dont have customers. You may stay as long as you'd like.

Spring peepers are loud and there are at least two other species of frogs calling.

We're getting our ducks in a row. Spring hours are Mon - Sat 9 am to 5 pm. Hornwort arrives 3/6 and our first fish shipment will be ready on Thursday 3/5.
