Upstate Gunsmithing LLC

Upstate Gunsmithing LLC Upstate Gunsmithing specializes in the repair, refinishing, and restoration of all types of fi****ms At Upstate Gunsmithing we're passionate about fi****ms.

Our expertise is centered on repairs to malfunctioning or broken guns. Our tag line is "If it shoots, we can fix it". We also specialize in firearm refinishing. Available finishes include traditional hot dip bluing, rust finishing (browning and bluing), Parkerizing, and Duracoating (one of our favorites). Examples of each are displayed in our shop. In addition, we perform mild customization work s

uch as drill/tap for scope mounts, bore sighting, recoil pad fitting, barrel threading and much more. Unlike some area gunsmith shops that can take as long as a year to complete a work order, we typically turn work around in less than two weeks, and often as quickly as next day. We look forward to serving you.

Well, Gang - all good things must eventually come to an end. I'm retiring. After 5 rewarding years serving the Greenville area with gunsmithing services, I'm retiring for real. Effective October 1, I will no longer be accepting new gunsmithing work. We are selling off our tools and are hanging up our guns (pun intended).

Thank you all for your patronage and trust. I hope I have been able to serve you as well as you have supported me.

Stay well.

Mike

While we're on this Facebook roll - a few weeks ago a guy came in with a S&W 38 Spl. that he wanted refinished for his wife for her B-Day. "Sky Blue" was the ask. He told us she was delighted with the face lift on her revolover. Here's a pic (no "before" pic - sorry!)

We get some really nasty guns that come into the shop for deep cleaning. We charge between $70 and $85 dollars for this service, depending on the firearm and its condition. What does the customer get? The attached "before/after" pics will give you an understanding. This Wi******er Model 12 was pretty much non-functional. It runs like a champ now.

Coming into Thanksgiving, we would like to thank all of our customers for your patronage and support. Fi****ms are like few other possessions in the emotions they engender. Be it that rare piece that completes your collection, that rifle you recently picked up to bag a Colorado elk, or that old shotgun of grandpa's that evokes the fond memories of your youth - we appreciate that your guns are special to you and we take seriously the responsibility that comes along with the gun when you entrust it to our care.

We would like to offer special thanks to you who have taken time from your busy schedules to post reviews of our work. In a small local business like ours, word of mouth is the most potent advertising there is. Your posts help ensure we will still be here to serve you the next time you need us.

Thanks all, and have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

Mike and Judy

Sometimes you get interesting projects into the shop. This customer brought in an AK-47 and wanted a unique camo job. From the Duracoat catalog he chose the AmStripe camo pattern and opted for yellow and red striping. This camo job entails shooting the whole rifle in yellow, applying stencils, reshooting the rifle in red, applying more stencils, then shooting the rifle in Combat Black.

The first two pics show the rifle after final Combat Black paint application with all stencils still in place. The next two show the finished product after the stencils were removed.

Wouldn't have been my choice for colors, but he's the one paying the bill. It should draw some looks at the shooting range, don't you think?

(BTW, I know the safety lever is missing - no comments needed on that).

I was mounting a grind-to-fit recoil pad on a shotgun last week and had to shorten the stock with my mitre saw. Damn thing kicked back and crunched my finger against the saw's fence. Here's a couple of pics. You have to admit - it does enhance a certain ability to communicate, don't you think?

Wanted to let everyone know that (for the first time) we will be an exhibitor at the gunshow at the Greenville TD Convention Center this weekend. We be showing examples of our refinishing offers and working to expand our brand recognition. Come down and see us if you can.

On July 22 Obama signed an executive order that expands the State Department's ITAR (International Traffic of Armaments Regulations) definitions to include common gunsmithing work done in shops like mine, such as threading barrels, rechambering, making a part for an old gun that is otherwise unavailable, trigger jobs, etc. For us to continue this work will require us to register with the State Department at an annual registration fee of $2,250. How could one deny that rebarreling Farmer Brown's 60 year old deer rifle represents a threat to national security?

Judy and I are looking at this to assess our best course of action, but in the interim, we are forced to curtail the scope of services we offer. Please give us a call with your gunsmithing need so we can assess how it fits/doesn't fit into these new and onerous rules.

Remember this come November . . .
