Meschill is a Texas girl living in Indiana, where she enjoys spending time with her family, including two grandsons. Her mission, as a writer, is to share her story to offer encouragement and comfort to those who are suffering. Her story of God’s peace and presence includes living with a chronic illness, caring for her husband during cancer and her mother during dementia, and the hardest trial of all, losing her 19-year-old daughter, Kristi, after an auto accident.

Chronic Peace for Chronic Pain is the first in the Unimaginable Peace Series, in which she combines personal reflections and scripture in a journal format to walk her readers through the same resources that held her up during her darkest days.

I think John 15 presents such a beautiful picture of abiding in Christ. We abide as we continue on the course to follow him and make our whole life about him.

He says, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love." (v. 9)

How do we abide in his love?

He answers, "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love." (v. 10)

Jesus had a mission from the Father. We have a mission from Jesus:

"This is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you." (v. 12)

He goes on to call us "friend"!

Jesus, the very Word of God, calls us friend, and he laid down his life for us.

Our mission is to lay our lives before him as he guides us through the Holy Spirit to show that same sacrificial love to others.

The way I do this will look different from the way you do it. We all have our own gifts and talents, but it will all be done in love.

The Holy Spirit gives us fruit to fulfill our mission. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law." (Gal. 5:22-23)

As we go about our day, we must approach every interaction with our mission in mind. We can look at our actions, the things we say, and how we say them, and measure them against Galatians 5:22-23.

Loving others is our mission, and the greatest way to love someone is to point them to Jesus!
