Happy Pride from Roundabout!

Our Pride collection this year focuses on history, mostly 20th century, and mostly histories embodied in a singular place and time to bring it to life—sometimes specific rights groups (ACT UP), sometimes material culture (“99 Objects”), sometimes community places like the gay bar.

The collection is on our main display table on the main level.

We usually have a theme display in our new book room every month. This month we set up photojournalism from a range of 20th century and recent artists, focused on America, and especially migration. I hope it connects some history and artists' empathy to the theme of the stranger. To me, "the stranger" evokes something like the universal vulnerability we share as humans and the challenge of trying to see one another with precision and heart. Like a picture.
