SALAITA STANS REJOICE !! Our favorite comparative Palestine / Native studies scholar has finally written the book recounting the aftermath of his infamous tenure denial case in 2014.

It turns out, Salaita ended up driving a school bus for a while. As lapsed academics who make "an honest living" at our day jobs as well, we can appreciate the perspective that the experience offered to Salaita. Thankfully, he kept writing through it and we have this book of critical reflections, from behind the wheel of a school bus, as a result.

"For thirty-five years, the New Orleans-based Black feminist collective Women With A Vision (WWAV) has fought for the liberation of their communities through reproductive justice, harm reduction, abolition feminism, racial justice, and s*x workers' rights. In 2012, shortly after one of WWAV's biggest organizing victories, arsonists firebombed and destroyed their headquarters. Fire Dreams is an innovative collaboration between WWAV and Laura McTighe, who work in community to build a social movement ethnography of the organization's post-arson rebirth. Rooting WWAV in the geography of the South and the living history of generations of Black feminist thinkers, McTighe and WWAV weave together stories from their founders' pioneering work during the Black HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1980s and their groundbreaking organizing to end criminalization in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina---with other movements for liberation as accomplices. Together, the authors refuse the logics of racial capitalism and share WWAV's own world-building knowledges, as well as their methods for living these Black feminist futures now. Fire Dreams is a vital toolkit for grassroots organizers, activist-scholars, and all those who dream to make the world otherwise."

We will continue to offer selected new releases via this program--as well as timely backlist titles like the ones you see here. You pay what we pay, no more and no less.

Of course, if you want to pay more, you can "Add a tip"! All tips collected at checkout are distributed to bail funds and jail support organizations in the U.S. So if you do pay more, 100% of that benefits people in or near your community who would otherwise be locked in a cage.

In 2023, we raised $10,656.74 for bail funds, jail support, and abolitionist groups, on revenue of $118,748.78. We also extended $7414.70 in credit so that folks could send books to their incarcerated pen pals for free.

This is the third consecutive year that we've raised $10k+ selling books. Can we do it forever? Probably. Will we do it forever? Again, probably.

As the bookstore that bails people out of jail, we've come to know the politics and economics of the county jail quite well. Wherever you are, you should find a bail fund or anti-jail advocacy org near you, and get involved! This book provides a fantastic overview of recent struggles from NYC to New Orleans to California.

PRISON BOOK CLUB ALERT: Our comrades over at .clubhq have added a new title to their wish list: Aimé Césaire's DISCOURSE ON COLONIALISM.

Every three months we send a big shipment of books with everything that's been ordered from the wish list. This is just one way to support a radical prison book program that sends 1000+ (!) books per month to incarcerated folks who've signed up to receive them.

In 2023 we ran pre-order campaigns for seven rad new books, working with their equally rad authors to raise some coin for abolitionist organizations including , Survived & Punished (NY), , , , and .

Thanks to all the authors who entrusted us with the promotion of their books--including esp. the magnificent who was the first to take advantage of our new pre-order promotion program. All totaled, we raised over $3,000 for abolitionist groups and individuals on pre-order sales of 700+ copies.

We also distributed three previously published titles at wholesale cost or sliding scale to support political education on the ongoing occupation and genocide by the Zionist entity in Palestine. Local sales of Mohammed el-Kurd's book of poetry, RIFQA, raised $1,145 for , an organization that assists those facing repression for supporting the Palestinian resistance.

It's been a fun year of bookselling experiments for us, and we have lots more planned for 2024.
