Hello, I’ve never introduced myself before but enjoy learning of other flower farmers backstories so thought I’d give it a try too.
I grew up in upstate New York and went happily off to art school but left to travel Europe on motorcycles with good friends and never went back.
After a number of years working with horses and living with my dog in a tipi, I settled and had my two wonderful children. To be able to stay home caring for them, I began farming and selling at farmers markets. Throughout those early years, I continued to learn all I could about farming and the flowers I grew while also arranging them in my own particular style.
I took every class and winter job I could find and was a mentor for Beginning Woman Farmers Holistic Management training where I learned so much from the program and women I met there in ways that continue to touch my life in positive ways.
Eventually after happily being involved in regional farmers markets for many years, Covid hit and I chose to leave that community and venture wholly into the wedding and event world with my flowers and farm.
Fast forward a quick 6 years and I am still enthusiastically still at at, in awe of what beauty I can coax from a tiny seed that can then be a part of a simple bouquet as I walk my field and greenhouse.
Farming is not for everyone but for those who don’t mind hard work, unpredictable weather and disappointment when something goes south, there is no other way I can imagine a better life. Hope the new year and season is fruitful for all, I’ll be back at it as soon as my new shoulder allows.
Meanwhile, I’m reading, planning, planting and looking forward to sharing my flowers out there again soon!
