Frame Crafters Gallery is a local, independently owned custom frame shop in Marin, that has been serving the community for over 25 years. We frame anything from posters, snapshots and mirrors to fine art, family heirlooms and memorabilia. Our specialties include shadowboxes, fabric wraps and hand-tinted mats and frames. Framing unfixed pastels can be a little tricky. This dramatic landscape pastel was framed with a double mat and a stacked frame to add a little more presence and dimension. When we are framing pastels, especially unfixed pastels, we affix a layer of 4-ply or 8-ply rag underneath the mat so that any fallout goes behind the mat instead of collecting on the mat or the bevels. We also used Optium plexiglass for the clarity, anti-reflective quality, lack of static, uv filtering, weight and shatter resistance. This piece originally had glass that had been broken and scratched the pastel, which we repaired. Now the pastel is safe and sound and subtly beautiful!

We just finished this fun mushroom needlepoint. I always like using fabric mats with textiles, the colors are richer and the subtle texture complements the piece. Paper mats can look flat in comparison. You can choose how much texture you want, from a tightly woven linen or silk with to a more rustic, irregular weave. The Fotiou frame has the ribbed texture like the inside of a mushroom!

This is a shadowbox project that we just completed. It is a beaded leather Native American purse that is floating on a linen background. It needed a little repair, as the tasseled area near the purse strings was pulling away. The frame was hand made by Daedalian. We customized the Notch Key design to create a shadowbox with corner detail that complemented the culture.
