Difficult Post
For 4 years, we brought what we felt Green Bay and downtown needed....a space that celebrates our community and state. It was supposed to be a fun, welcoming, authentic place that showcases our home and the people that make it special. We think LoCo WisCo (what a ridiculous name) was all of that and more.
Since opening, we met so many wonderful people from all across the world. We talked to people who were looking to relocate to the area. We met foreign exchange students who were looking for souvenirs to bring back home. We were a defacto visitors bureau answering all the questions about Green Bay. We became friends with customers who supported us beyond measure. We got to know our neighbors by name. We talked it up with NFL fans who were in town for a game. We supported the dreams of other local businesses. We got to hear you guys tell us how much you loved the store. We loved you all too and that's why this is so difficult.
To support the store and our mission, both Michael and I had to maintain outside employment. At one point, we were both working full-time jobs while still working at the store 50 hours a week. And when we had free time, we were parents. Currently, I work full-time and Michael works part-time. I've been really struggling lately to balance everything. Certain parts of my life have been very demanding and have left me drained. I simply don't have the energy or brainpower at this point. Our plan not too long ago was to move and expand to be more successful. However, that requires more time, money, and energy none of which I have at the moment. I have not being doing LoCo WisCo, the people we work with, and our customers justice.
That being said, Michael and I have made the beyond difficult decision to close. While some might say, we are doing what's best for us as a polite response..trust me that's simply not true. What's best for us is to stay open. We want to grow and be able to make a living out of this and continue to support other WI-based businesses but circumstances and this crappy economy are against us.
So I'm sure your wondering what happens next. We have asked our makers to keep their items in the store until Aug. 31 but I can't make any promises. If you have gift certificates, now's the time to spend them! We will be giving our makers time to collect their items before we start selling our remaining inventory at a discount starting September 11. Be warned all of this is subject to change. We plan to be closed to customers by the end of September. Our lease expires the end of October and will take the month to get the space ready for the next tenant. Who knows maybe a miracle will happen..wouldn't that be something. Anyone got a space we can be in for a really good deal..lol? Hey - I gotta at least ask. We will be selling most of our fixtures so if there's something you are interested in we can take down your name and number.
We are beyond grateful to all of you and the 4 years we had together. Please be sure to come say good-bye.
