Long Ridge Mall

Long Ridge Mall I basically set this up as a page where people can post about the former Long Ridge Mall in Greece, NY. Feel free to share your memories and photos!

Hello, and Happy New Year! I hope that all are well if they are currently residing in California or North Carolina. Some have mentioned over the past few years that a website which pertains to Long Ridge and other malls or plazas should be resurrected. I don't mind doing this so long as I'm getting paid in order to operate it. This started out as a hobby and eventually became a costly one. As time went on, various pieces of memorabilia had to be sold to cover expenses because I can't work for free. Seeing as how I did keep my word about the Electric Ball Circus, I have established a level of trust. Just out of curiosity, how many would consider making monthly donations for a website versus a FB page?

The Landsman Sculpture which was made by artist Stanley Landsman at Long Ridge Mall. This is from a film negative that I came across online. Person who posted it mentioned something about the picture being taken at Midtown Plaza. We all know that's definitely not Midtown. Circa 1970s.

For those of you who may not know, David Bermant was the President of National Shopping Centers Inc. NSC managed Long Ridge Mall. Not only that, Mr. Bermant was the original owner of the Electric Ball Circus by George Rhoads. He actually purchased it from Winter's Art Catalog back in 1974 and it was originally part of his private art collection. I'm not sure when in 1974 that the Electric Ball Circus was installed in the former Sears court. Mr. Bermant was also responsible for installing other kinetic/interactive art sculptures throughout and even outside of Long Ridge Mall. Honestly, I'm still surprised that any of them were discarded as trash at one time.

The David Bermant Foundation: Color, Light, Motion was established in 1986 to encourage and advocate experimental visual art.

One of the original swing arms on the Electric Ball Circus that broke off. There were originally 3 swing arms when it was on display at what used to be Long Ridge Mall from 1974-1993. This picture was taken in 2011.

Some of these features can still be seen on the Electric Ball Circus as it looks in rebuilt condition today! According to someone who works at Creative Machines in Arizona, it would have had to be stripped down and rebuilt from scratch. We all know that wasn't true.

The Electric Ball Circus in 2011 before I planned on having it either rebuilt or restored. Unfortunately, I didn't have much luck with a couple of people who claimed that they could bring it back to fully operational condition. Creative Machines in Arizona was one of them.
