**Full-Time Appliance Repair Technician Needed**
Skyline Appliance Repair, a small family-owned, minority-owned business located in Pilsen (2017 S Throop St), is seeking a full-time appliance repair technician.
**Paid Apprenticeship**
This position begins as a paid apprenticeship and leads to a full-time position. As an apprentice, you will shadow a current technician and learn how to fix washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, microwaves, and refrigerators. The apprenticeship pays $15/hour, and typically requires shadowing approximately 40 hours per week. The length of the paid apprenticeship depends on how quickly you learn but will be approximately 3-4 months.
**Schedule**
Once you graduate from the apprenticeship program and are a full-time employee, you will work approximately 40 hours per week with a semi-flexible schedule.
You will be required to work one evening of your choice (either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 5 – 8 PM), but you do not have to work in the morning on the day you select. You will also be required to work two Saturdays a month, and during those weeks, you may take either Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday off. As evening and weekend jobs pay more, you may choose to work more evenings or weekends.
**Salary**
There will be 2 parts to each job, the diagnosis and the repair. You will be paid from $22.50-$27.50 for diagnosing and $22.50-$27.50 for the labor per appliance. So each job will pay between $45-$55 if you both diagnose and repair. For evenings and weekends, you will receive an additional $10 per call. You will typically be assigned four (4) to six (6) calls a day. Your salary will be approximately $50,000/year (or higher if you work additional hours/evenings/weekends).
**Responsibilities:**
* Maintain, repair, or install household appliances, such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, and ovens;
* Disassemble and reassemble appliances for diagnosis and repair;
* Order, pick up, and replace worn and defective parts as needed;
* Provide repair cost estimates and recommend whether appliance repair or replacement is a better choice;
* Collect payment from customers; and
* Provide excellent and punctual customer service.
**Required Qualifications:**
* High school graduate or equivalent;
* Valid driver’s license and daily access to a vehicle;
* Strong customer service skills;
* Excellent communication skills;
* Quick learner;
* Ability to work independently;
* Experience with using tools and doing manual labor; and
* Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
**Desired Qualifications:**
* Experience in appliance or other small machine repair;
* Bilingual in Spanish or other language.
**Important Note: **Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am seeking a technician who has been consistently practicing mask wearing and social distancing and will continue to do so. Please be aware that you will be entering customer’s homes for this position, so it is important that Skyline Appliance Repair employees are being as safe as possible on and off the clock to keep our customers safe.
