Well, summer in northern Minnesota spent several weeks acting like she had other plans, and then this week she kicked the door open in sunglasses and announced herself in her hot, sticky glory. ☀️🫠

So naturally, I made her a to-do list.

Go on a picnic. Drink something cold. Stitch something with your hands. Wander a farmers market. Take the bike ride. Write down the big dreams. Watch the sunset and pretend, for one golden little minute, that you are not mostly composed of iced coffee and mosquito bites.

Nothing too serious. Nothing too fussy. Just a few tiny ways to make summer feel like summer before she disappears again and we’re all pretending 48 degrees is “actually kind of nice” (which it is, to my northern attitude).

What’s on your summer list?

Market day is here 🌸

I’m set up at the Women’s Maker Market at Urban Growler in St. Paul today from 12–4 pm with laser-cut embroidery kits, tiny stitchy projects, and a whole little table of “wait, that’s cute” energy.

Come say hi, grab a beer, browse the makers, and find yourself a project that feels like a tiny creative reset.

I’ll be here until 4:)

Hey there! It’s been a beat since my last introduction, let me reintroduce myself!

I’m Kayla, and Sew Festive is what happened when I loved the look of embroidery, felt mildly bullied by the traditional process, and decided to make my own way in. Now I design laser-cut embroidery kits that make stitching feel a little easier, a little prettier, and a lot more approachable💙🧵🪡

If you can get behind that and also happen to love dogs, punk rock, Francophone cities, and coffee, well, then we just might be best friends and I’m glad you found me☺️

Welcome—feel free to stick around and see the shenanigans!

One of the questions I get a lot is whether I sell finished projects, and the answer is: not here. ✨

Sew Festive is a fully kit-based business, which means the goal is for you to make the project. Not because I want to hand you homework, but because this whole little corner of the world was built around making embroidery feel more approachable, more modern, and a lot less intimidating.

I didn’t come to this as a traditional fiber artist first. I came to it as a designer, a maker, and someone who loves mixing methods, materials, and ideas. And once laser-cut embroidery made stitching feel easier and more fun for me, I knew I wanted to share that with other people, too.

So whether you’re brand new to embroidery or just want a fresh way back into it, that’s what Sew Festive is here for: no hoops, no guesswork, just the fun part. 🧵

Save this if you’ve ever wondered how Sew Festive works, or send it to someone who’d love embroidery if it felt a little less overwhelming.

…but not physics, either. I was told that would also be a poor choice.

So Environmental Science it was!

I am not logical. I am not concrete. I can’t identify a chemical or calculate mass or velocity to save my life.

But there is very little I can’t do with a Cricut and an idea, and that’s exactly what my brain is made to do✌️

What’s your brain built to do?🧠

Welcome to the first Sew Festive stitch tutorial! 🧵✨

We’re starting with one of the most useful stitches out there: the back stitch. If you’re new to embroidery, this is a great one to know because it creates a clean, simple line and shows up in all kinds of designs.

It’s one of the foundational stitches I use in Sew Festive patterns, so learning this one is a pretty great place to begin. Think of it as your nice, reliable starter stitch—the one that helps everything else make a little more sense.

Save this for your next stitching session, and let me know what stitch you want to learn next. 💙

A few tiny blooms are headed to BB + Friends this Saturday for their Mother’s Day Market… and this time, they’ll be tucked inside the ArtVend machine. 🧵✨

These brand new mini kits are little stitched bits of joy, ready to be picked out like the world’s cutest creative surprise. So if you’re stopping by the market, make sure you swing past ArtVend and see what might bloom for you. 🌷

A tiny bouquet, a little lavender, a hydrangea moment, a wandering bee…I’m very into all of them💙🧵🪡

Come by see what’s waiting, 10 am - 4 pm!
