Campesino Rum Aged XIV is a highly praised, unadulterated blended rum that brings a whiskey-like, bourbon-forward complexity to the glass. Made with zero added sugars or artificial coloring, it is incredibly clean, smooth, and perfect for both neat sipping and premium cocktails.
Overview & Origins
Despite the "XIV" name, the spirit inside the bottle is actually a blend of barrels aged between 6 and 8 years. The name refers to the sum of the ages of the component rums. The blend includes:
80% 8-year-old rum from Barbados (Foursquare Distillery) and the Dominican Republic.
20% 6-year-old rum from Panama (Varela Rum Distillery).
All of the components are fully matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks at their respective origins before being blended to create the final flavor profile.
Tasting Notes
Because it utilizes ex-bourbon casks and relies solely on natural aging, this rum is a massive hit with whiskey drinkers.
Nose: Bourbon-like aromas with heavy notes of toasted wood, vanilla, and honeycomb.
Palate: Rich, woody caramel, toasted oak, and hints of honeycomb with a subtly spicy burnt orange peel and citrus finish.
Finish: Smooth, elegant, and devoid of the burn or harshness commonly associated with cheaper, artificially sweetened rums.
How to Drink It
Campesino Aged XIV is versatile but really shines in two distinct ways:
Neat / On the Rocks: It has a natural, subtle sweetness that makes it an excellent "solo sipper".
In an Old Fashioned: The founder and spirit enthusiasts highly recommend this rum as the base for an Old Fashioned. Its oak and vanilla notes integrate seamlessly with bitters and citrus peel.
