My name is Sarah, and I'm the owner of the shop. I was born and raised in Madison, VA, went to school at MCHS, then UVA, and moved just outside of downtown Gordonsville over 12 years ago. I'm a single mom, and have worked almost 30 years in the pharmaceutical research industry. My son, Noah, is 15 and he opened a smaller shop inside of Weaver Street called Bubba's when he was just 12. We have been a part of the small local business community in historic Gordonsville, VA for over 3 years now.
What I feel is unique about Weaver Street Shops is the depth of the collections.
The shop has the largest collection of authentic antique feedsacks and handstitched antique quilts available in a brick-and-mortar store in Virginia, perhaps the east coast.
The quilts range from the mid-1800s through the mid-1900s, with hundreds of handstitched examples available to explore. They aren't simply decorative pieces—they represent generations of creativity, resourcefulness, regional traditions and craftsmanship. Many were made from materials that were never intended to become heirlooms, yet somehow survived to become works of true art.
The same is true of the feedsacks. Weaver Street Shops has an extraordinary selection of authentic vintage feedsacks, including colorful prints and patterns that reflect a fascinating chapter of American history. These humble flour, feed and commodity sacks were transformed by resourceful families into clothing, quilts, curtains, household goods and countless other necessities. Today, collectors treasure them for their graphics, fabrics and glimpse into everyday life in 20th-century America.
But Weaver Street Shops is much more than quilts and feedsacks. The shop brings together authentic Native American jewelry, rocks, minerals and crystals, handmade pieces, vintage clothing and other carefully curated Americana and fair trade treasures. The inventory is constantly changing, which means even repeat visitors can discover something completely different.
And then there is the setting.
Located in historic Gordonsville, Weaver Street Shops is part of a walkable cluster of independently owned businesses where visitors can spend an afternoon exploring antiques, art, food and local history. It feels less like a traditional antique or gift store and more like stumbling upon a collection that shouldn't all exist under one roof—which is precisely what makes it fun.
I often hear customers describe the shop as feeling like a museum where everything is for sale. That reaction captures what I hope visitors experience: the opportunity to see an extraordinary concentration of historic American textiles and objects while also being able to take a piece of that history home.
