Pueblo Tailwater Fishing Report: February 25
Flows have been decent as of late, but even with changing and low flows, fishing has been great. Midges and BWO’s have been hatching, and the fish are taking advantage! Dry fly fishing has been phenomenal lately and hatches have been lasting hours at a time.
Nymphing is always a sure shot producer when fish aren’t looking up. As mentioned, midges and BWO’s should be on your rig at all times. Leading with a leech, worm, or annelid has been producing. However, with fish in prespawn, small egg patterns (such as the Sunny Side Up in slide 4) have been catching lots of fish during our own time and guided trips.
With that being said, please be aware of spawning fish this time of year, ESPECIALLY at Pueblo. The same warmer water temperatures that allow extended BWO hatches allows the rainbows to begin their spawn earlier. Leave our spawning fish alone!
Enjoy your time on the water this week and/or weekend and we’ll see you in the shop soon
