💐Christ is Risen! 💐

Once again, I want to share St John Chrysostom’s Paschal Homily, simply because it is the finest thing ever!

“The Table is richly laden!”
“Let all partake of the Feast of Faith!”

P.S. I’m happy that Christians of all stripes are coming to know this beautiful sermon. It’s popilarity is evident by the many posts I found online from Protestant and Catholic sources, in addition to the Orthodox ones. My prayer is that all people in the world will join the Fellowship of Christ by being grafted into His Body — the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church; the Church established by Christ and existing through all the ages, unchanged, in Holy Orthodoxy.

On courage and audacity

Saint Nectarios (APANTA , 5TH VOLUME)

Courage is the motion of the soul to dare worthy actions, while
audacity is the unreasonable motion of the soul to actions beyond our
capability.
The courageous person is aware of the danger and willingly maintains
courage; but the audacious person being unaware of the danger is
thoughtlessly moved .
On the one hand the courageous person heading to the fight does not
flinch, does not give in, does not stray; instead he bravely keeps
fighting and struggling to prevail; and he falls fighting for his
motherland, his sacred and holy values, justice, truth. and he never
relents or digresses.
The audacious person heading to the fight as soon as he faces death
falls in shock; he backs down and leaves as a runaway making sure that
he is saved.
The courageous person is gallant, brave, generous, wise; while the
audacious one is cowardly, fearful, pusillanimous and foolish.

And several more commemorations, including the celebration of a miracle of the Virgin Pantanassa ("Queen of All"). The beautiful icon pictured here of the Theotokos Pantanassa is available at the store.

Introducing a beautiful new book for children!

“Katherine and the Monastery” teaches in a fun and meaningful way what it is like for children to visit an Orthodox monastery. The book is written and illustrated by Maria Koo Silva.

Our guide on this special trip is little Katherine, Maria’s real life daughter. In the book, Katherine and her sister, Anastasia, visit our beloved Life-Giving Spring Monastery in Dunlap, California where their grandfather, Fr Gregory, serves as the priest. They enjoy the animals, the beautiful surroundings, the services, and everything else that the Sisters offer by their way of life to visiting pilgrims.

This book will become a treasured addition to your children’s library. Come by our store in Glendale to pick up a copy today!

A thoughtful article from a few years ago:

by Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, one God. amen. More than 400 years ago in Tudor England, there was a custom of celebrating a holiday called “Twelfth Night,” which took place on January 5th.

Dear Friends of the Life-Giving Spring Bookstore, Happy New Year! May 2019 be full of blessings for you and yours!

Please note that the bookstore will be closed this week, because I’ve managed to catch the first flu bug of the year and need to stay in bed for a few days.

The store will be open again on Tuesday, January 8. Blessed Nativity to all who celebrate the feast this week!
