Good afternoon everyone. I came across some info that I found beneficial and wanted to share. I think it very much helps to understand consignment vs thrifting and why as consignment we cannot negotiate our prices. Thrifting and consignment are not the same thing. They both deal with secondhand goods, but they operate differently in terms of inventory, pricing, and curation. Here is how they differ: Thrift Stores: Typically run by non-profits (like Goodwill or Salvation Army). They source their inventory entirely through donations and sell items at low, flat-rate prices. Consignment Shops: For-profit businesses where individuals bring in their clothes or items to sell. The original owner retains ownership of the item until it sells, at which point the store takes a percentage of the sale. Also Consignment stores may chose to rent space to dealers. In our consignment store the renters may sell items different than what we accept to sell. The Buying Experience- Thrifting is like a treasure hunt; you pay a low flat-rate (e.g., all sweaters are $6.00and have to dig through massive amounts of uncurated items. Consignment shopping is more like a curated boutique. The store hand-selects higher-end, trendy, or vintage items, and prices them individually to reflect their brand and condition. Because of this, consignment items are much closer to retail prices. We do use sources such as EBay (sold items only not asking price), Google and ChatGPT to determine fair pricing. I hope this has been of a benefit and a clear explanation. We do strive to provide good quality, clean and an overall fun experience. We greatly appreciate our consigners and our customers, which a lot of you are both. Thank each of you for your business. ❤️❤️
