Yukon ULU Company Handmade Historical Ulu Knives. The Ulu is a traditional Inuit knife with a history of over 4,500 years, originally crafted from stone, bone, or ivory.

Historically, it was a versatile tool primarily used by women for tasks like skinning animals, preparing food, and sewing. With contact from whalers, steel became a common material by the 19th century, and many modern ulus are made with steel blades and wooden handles. How to oil your Yukon ULU knife after use. Like all High carbon steel knives they must be oiled ( Food Grade) after every use or at the end of the day of use. The oil keeps the blade clean and prevents rust or any other discoloration. Most of our knives will last for several generation when taken care of correctly.
