Not EVERY day on the farm is perfect! It may seem magical, exciting and romantic. But life on the farm can be hard. Real hard. There are difficult and stressful days around every corner. Worrying about water, crop failure, weather ( is it too hot or too cold), animals, and thinking is this the year we are going to throw in the towel. Sometimes you feel like you would be better off just digging a hole in the field and burying your money. You would probably lose less.
Today was one of those days here at our small farm. We have been expecting patiently the birth of our final goat’s babies. She was the last of the herd to deliver. We knew she was carrying twins maybe triplets. This was her fifth kidding and she was a superstar milker and mother. Her births were textbook, until today. 😥
We noticed that she was laboring but not progressing. When the vet got here and checked her the babies had all passed and were tangled inside her blocking the birth canal. The vet couldn’t get them untangled, they were all trying to get through the birth canal at once. There was no saving our sweet Yuli. Too much damage was done and she wouldn’t survive this pregnancy. We are heartbroken!!! And guess what?!? Today farming sucks!! It sucks hard! But despite it all I thank God, our creator for giving our family this rare opportunity. We will never not appreciate it. There are MANY farmers and ranchers struggling today. Wondering whether it is time to throw in the towel. There are farmers all over the country wondering is today the day we call it quits. We need our farmers, so Say a prayer for them. I know they will appreciate it.
