Have you found some hawkmoth caterpillars munching on your tomatoes? Tomato AND to***co hornworms turn into some pretty neat, large, hawk moths, but they sure do eat A LOT. 🐛

At first I assumed these were tomato hornworms, but SURPRISE! They have been positively identified by scientists on iNaturalist as To***co Hornworms! Check out a great description of the differences between the two from The Butterfly Lady here:

We usually designate some of our tomatoes as sacrifice plants so we can relocate them and allow the caterpillars to live since they are native to Michigan. The adults are nocturnal pollinators that visit flowers at night like bats!🦇

Update! Do NOT give them to the chickens. Just learned they get upset tummies due to the solanine in the tomatoes!!🐔

This beautiful but awkward juvenile cedar waxwing visited us in the greenhouse last week. Luckily her mom called her back, and she only stayed for a little bit.
If you have serviceberries, elderberries, fruiting dogwoods or fruiting viburnums, cedar waxwings have probably visited your yard! They have the best eyeliner in the bird world.
