Did you know the NFL used white footballs?

In the ’30s, ‘40s, and ’50s, night games were extremely rare. To combat poor lighting, the NFL used white footballs to help the players and fans see the ball. Players complained the white balls were harder to grip, and sports writers of the day described the white ball as a giant egg. The white football was finally retired in 1956. Although I have never encountered one, the white football even snuck onto a few trading cards of the day!

I have this one listed for $200. It’s a fantastic display piece and a cool talking point for any sports fan!

This is an ultra-rare Minnesota North Stars jersey! When the North Stars moved to Dallas, they dropped “North” from their name and added the Texas patches to the shoulders of their sweaters. This is one of the last North Stars jerseys and is a rare white away jersey. Truly a piece of hockey history!

While hitting up garage sales last Saturday, I drove past a “Baseball Card Sale” sign. Intrigued, I followed the signs and found a young man, most likely 12-13 years old, selling baseball cards in his front yard. He had a table set up with a few boxes of cards. It looked like his dad helped him build a little card display stand.

I am always eager to support a young entrepreneur, so I had to stop. He asked me about my favorite teams/players and showed me cards he thought I might be interested in. I picked up this Topps Heritage Lance Lynn card from his table. It’s good to see kids interested in reselling/trading/collecting!
