I did some design therapy today.

While working through a few failed projects in the studio, I realized how much I was stuck in my own head. I kept thinking about awareness ribbons and all the meaning they carry — support, illness, grief, advocacy, hope. But what hit me most is that a ribbon usually exists because someone is carrying something heavy… and no one should have to carry that alone.

So I started making ribbons. A bunch of them. Then soldering them together in messy, imperfect clusters. Organic. Tangled. Real. Raw.

Because when illness touches your life — whether it’s you, your spouse, your immediate family, or someone you love — your vision gets very clear, very fast. You learn who counts you as family during the holidays. The ones that know the difference between skipping a text and knowing when to follow up. Who notices when something feels “off.” Who quietly stands a little closer.

The biggest thing I’ve learned through the awareness community is this: you need a team. You need people who know you enough to stand beside you, the ones that just randomly check-in. You need to know you can be fully yourself, even in the hard moments.

Maybe awareness ribbons were never meant to stand alone. Maybe they were always meant to be connected to other ribbons — other people, other stories, other hope.

Because no one should be wearing a ribbon alone.
