I have a few new followers on here so I thought I would give you some background and insight into myself.
I have an MFA with a concentration in ceramics. My father is a ceramicist also. My main focus was on wood firing in which a kiln is fired for up to a week using only wood as the fuel and the ash that lands on the pots creates a glazed surface. It's literally getting so hot that it melts the ash into a glaze on the pottery.
I did this as a profession from about 2008 until around 2022. Then I made my first guitar and got completely hooked and decided making guitars is what I want to do. So since 2022 I have been making custom electric guitars full-time.
On the surface these two crafts don't seem to have much in common but it's always interesting how one thing leads to another. I always liked how the wood fired pots came out feeling like this relic'd item that had been unearthed. I can see this influence directly in my choice is using reclaimed pine from old to***co barns on some of the builds.
Hand carving the neck and pulling handles on pottery also have a lot in common. On both they are the area in which the hand is in direct and constant contact with the object. Both of these need to function correctly while also being an area that must be ergonomic and maintaining aesthetics.
If you read this far than thank you for taking the time. I could go on and on but I don't want to bore you all too much.
