Happy Book Launch Day to Brad Barkley!

Today marks the release of The Reel Life of Zara Kegg, a funny, heartfelt, and thoroughly entertaining new YA novel that celebrates movies, friendship, and finding your place in the world. We’re thrilled to have copies available here at the bookstore.

🎉And the party isn’t over yet!

Join us next Tuesday June 23 at 7:30 PM at The Palace Theatre as Brad reads from the book, shares stories from behind the scenes, and talks about bringing Zara Kegg to life. Whether you’re already a fan or discovering his work for the first time, it’s sure to be a wonderful evening.

One of the many gifts that Fred and the bookstore have given me also includes my love of Ann Patchett.

In 2023 at one of our first meetings about my possibly buying the bookstore Fred slid an advanced reader copy of Tom Lake across the table to me. And an introduction happened. Tom Lake was one of the best books I’d read that year. And that worn ARC has a special place in one of our home bookshelves.

This year, it was me passing along the advanced reader of Patchett’s newest novel, Whistler, out on shelves today! It’s a beautiful woven story of family, passing time, perspective and relationships. I adored it.

There are so many great books releasing today, including Maggie O’Farrell’s newest, Land, a gorgeous novel about the years before and after the Great Hunger. We’ve got these and more ready for you to hit your summer reading goals!

One of the best parts of being the person who orders books for the store is getting advanced reader copies from authors I already love. The hardest part is waiting months for everyone else to read them so I can finally talk about them too.

I’ve loved Matt Haig ever since I picked up a copy of The Midnight Library from Mr. Fred at this very store six years ago, back when I was just another regular customer.

Today, Matt Haig’s newest release, The Midnight Train, is finally here. While it exists in the same “midnight” universe, this is a completely standalone story and it’s absolutely beautiful. We meet Wilbur, a gentle soul who boards the train to revisit key moments from his life. It’s full of love, loss, regret, reflection, and ultimately, finding peace.
