Charlie Tango’s Cutting Board 101: The Importance of the Board Oil. Aside from making the colors of the wood/s used look amazing, the oil plays a major role in sanitation. Allowing the board to soak in as much of the oil that it can, will prevent the cutting board from soaking in the biological fluids from what you are prepping/serving from the surface. If not seasoned with the oil the unwanted fluids can and will grow bacteria on and below the surface of the board. Therefore, the oil saturates and waterproofs. A good habit would be to apply the oil once a month or if it looks dry. Every board that ships from my shop will have soaked in multiple applications for at least 24 hrs beforehand. This way, right out of the box, you can start chopping and only worry about maintaining. Next 101 will cover the importance of Board Butter. Seasoning a Hard White Maple End-Grain cutting board with 2 Black Walnut stripes and 2 thin African Padauk stripes. I didn’t know how this would turn out but I think it’s my favorite so far. Watching the boards turn color is so satisfying for some reason. This one I personalized with our hospital logo. Going to offer personalizing with a last name split monogram in place of the WSEH logo for future boards. Perfect for Christmas, weddings or birthdays!!
