Left the dock around 3am and were greeted with calm seas going out. Stopped at our first snapper spot about 80 miles out. Sun was just starting to rise and the gulf was flat. Picked up a few snapper but lots of small ones. Continued on and stopped at a rig around 270’ tried for snapper but nothing but small ones. Decided to start jigging and we ended up catching tons of almaco jacks. Decided to make bait before going any deeper. We started sending live baits down for AJ to see if anyone was home and we’re greated to drag screaming off the reel. Went 4/4 on the first rig and then moved after the bite was slow. Stopped at another rig in 350’ decided to tie off and try to work on our snapper limit and yet not much to show for but small snapper. Got a couple of bonus grouper while hitting on the bottom for snapper. Dropped a live bait for AJ and the nice little Warsaw decided he wanted to come get his photo taken 📸. We untied from the rig and after several missed bites we finished out our AJ limit.
Starting to get late in the afternoon made a stop to try and find some barrel fish or grouper. Marked a nice rock but no bites. Moved again in a last ditch effort to find some tiles. Current at this time has changed, we were dropping with 8lbs of lead and line was scoping out super far. Set the boat side ways and we were able to drop 3 lines and grab a few tile fish before heading in. Stop at a cut off rig on the way in and finished our snapper limit.
