Cotton Weeds Quilt Shop
Hello Quilting Friends! What a beautiful summer we're having in Maine! Lots of sun, the festivals are back, and it's actually warm! Ha, ha!
Since I mentioned "warm", Christmas fabric is coming in. Don't be that person (like me!) who panics at the beginning of December and can't find the perfect holiday print. We've got 2 Advent calendars and loads of prints from Freespirit, Hoffman, Northcott, and Robert Kaufman. Snowmen, sweaters, critters, chickadees, Santa ("I know him!"-- what's that quote from??), gold, silver-- all gorgeous and waiting to be used in projects! Head to the website for a smattering of choices. Even more holiday prints at the shop!!!
Don't forget, we also have reproductions, children's, batiks, and more coming in daily!
And... drum roll, please! Our Third Annual Slow-Stitch Retreat is scheduled for November at the James Place Inn. Details at Cottonweeds.com ! Slow-Stitch Retreat!
Yes!!!! It's true! The Third Annual Slow-Stitch Retreat at the James Place Inn! Put away those sewing machines and get out your hand-stitching supplies, it's time to embroider and applique and punchneedle and quilt! All by hand. All with friends. All at the amazing James Place Inn in Freeport (just a block away from Cotton Weeds).
Here are the juicy deets (My kids cringe when I use slang. Luckily they don't read this.):
Who: YOU! And Lori and Michelle: hand sewists extraordinaire!
What: Everything hand-sewing. Bring your own projects to work on-- anything that does not require a sewing machine (embroidery, binding, cross-stitch, English paper piecing, etc.). We'll also have break-out sessions to teach you something new or to improve your skills. This year, we will teach you Chicken Scratch Embroidery-- it's very meditative and addictive! There will be other break-out sessions announced as we get closer to the retreat.
Where: The James Place Inn (11 Holbrook Street, Freeport, Maine)
When: Friday Nov. 4 (3pm) - Sunday Nov. 6 (noon)
Yes, you read that right-- this year we're staying for TWO NIGHTS of sewing bliss
How: Registration is a 2-step process.
STEP ONE: Sign-up with Cotton Weeds, either online or by calling the shop at (207) 865-4600. The registration fee is $80. This covers the use of the James Place Inn common areas.
Friday/Saturday/Sunday ; lunch on Saturday, a constant supply of snacks and drinks, and the workshops.
STEP TWO: Reserve your room with the James Place Inn by calling (207) 865-4486. Please do not register online because they are giving us a deal (we love deals!). The rate is $150 per night, double occupancy (find a friend!). This includes breakfast on Saturday and Sunday-- the best breakfast in Freeport!
Please note: You do have to stay overnight to come to the Slow-Stitch Retreat (we don't have the space to accomodate both overnight guests and day attendees-- I know, we're big meanies), and priority will be given to guests staying both nights, which means for now, registration is only open to folks staying both nights. We'll open up registration for one night once we see what's available for rooms (probably a week or 2 before the event). You can put yourself on a "one-night waitlist" either by calling us at Cotton Weeds or calling the James Place Inn.
This is sure to be a fun time.

Price is $2 per blade, and he accepts cash/check/credit. Head to patssharpening.com for more info and to see what else he sharpens (you can drop it all off here). You can also call (207) 480-7102 and speak to the man himself.
